They may have been weakened by mildew or other issues from the age. Just use 2 hands, grab a warp string and pull apart. If it breaks real easily, the rug that you make with it will also come apart real easily. If they are weak, perhaps if a layer of the spool is wound off (where moisture/age affected it less) and you test it again - it may be stronger. Tie it back on with a square knot. Of course check all of them for weakness. I had a batch of bad thread once because of how it was stored. Lou Morgan, owner of a working Deen. NOTE: my uncle had a full rack of spools on one of his 3 looms. Only drawback is the larger investment of that many spools.unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10622969557765903128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6272920245483767737.post-47447952393836358472014-05-06T16:19:28.710-04:002014-05-06T16:19:28.710-04:00www.weavolution.com has a thread about Deen looms....www.weavolution.com has a thread about Deen looms. Visit the site and search "Deen" to follow the conversation. "Back in the day...", he and 'the kids' wove the rag rugs, then Grandma would finish the edges on her pedal Singer. While folks were recovering from the Great Depression, people would trade food, more rags, or even their old rugs back for these very durable and easy to wash rugs--I still have some that are far older than me!

In case you haven't found anything... Janet Meany at weaversfriend.com sells copies of some Deen manuals, and Barb Barnett at Barnett Sheep and Wool & N.E. Iowa Weavers Museum has two of these looms operating (or at least she did several years ago!). As for parts, well, there isn't even much info out there, let alone parts... I've had my loom for over 10 years and I'm still looking! I'm also looking for blogs, and another Deen loom!Monica Senykhttp://www.facebook.com/monicasenyknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6272920245483767737.post-56694915937038928972011-08-28T11:27:35.267-04:002011-08-28T11:27:35.267-04:00I have an old cast iron Deen Loom used to make rug...I have an old cast iron Deen Loom used to make rugs and have a couple of the rugs made on it. We purchased our hobby farm and this was an agreed on part of the purchase. It also went through at least two owners of this property - if not more - as our house and barn are quite old. We are looking for a parts source and manuals if you know of any. Great pics also. Are there close-ups as I'd like to set up something similar for my loom.I Cook 365https://www.blogger.com/profile/12145132995363653319noreply@blogger.com
